Aims and Scope

MARINE RESEARCH IN INDONESIA (MRI) has been published since 1956 by Indonesia's oldest marine research institute, the Research Center for Oceanography of LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences). MRI focuses on physical, chemical, biological, geological oceanographic as well as coastal management studies in the Indonesian seas and the adjacent Indo-Pacific region. MRI highly welcomes submissions resulted from international collaborative works. 

Section Policies

MRI accommodates original papers as Research Articles (at least 5 printed pages); Reviews (state-of-the-art evaluations of defined research areas; up to 15 printed pages); Notes or Short Communication (brief reports of important new information deserving priority publication or important personal views on emerging topics; up to 4 printed pages); Comments (critical, fair assessments of published works) and Reply to Comments (replies to comments; normally 2 to 3 printed pages). In some occasions, MRI also publishes special issues on topics related to marine studies (up to 10 printed pages). All papers are accepted under open submission and indexed.

Peer Review Process

MRI operates a double-blind peer-review process for Research Articles and Reviews papers. Reviewers may at their own discretion opt to reveal their names to the author/s in their reviews. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two referees. All manuscripts are reviewed as rapidly as possible, and an editorial decision is normally reached within 2-8 weeks of submission.

Publication Frequency

MRI is published twice a year in June and December.

Open Access Policy

MRI provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public to supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Archiving

MRI utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More

Article Submission and Processing Charges 

MRI does not charge for article submission and processing. All submission will be processed at no cost.

MRI is sponsored by the Research Center for Oceanography - Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). In 2018, MRI received an incentive award from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education.
